What are we coming to

Started by: Wigman31 (2)

Been an observer and reader for a while but had to comment on this.
Scottish Widows part of Lloyds Banking group have issued a directive to staff not use status of Widow or Widower but to refer instead to someone as separated.
After fifty plus years of marriage I am a widower and whilst my wife is no longer with me in no way are we separated she will stay with me in cherished memories. I for one resent this modernistic so called protocol.

I agree that is stupid and misleading, because if you say that you are 'separated' from your wife, that implies that you had a fall out and got divorced, and what is wrong with Widow or Widower a Widow is a female who's husband has passed away, a Widower a man who's wife has passed away, if someone is explaining a situation to someone else, and they say "I am a Widower" that one word explains a lot, if you said you were separated from your wife, then that could lead to awkward questions.

Now,that's how stupid it sounds...it reminds me of the time the top senior Nursing Officer came onto our ward and said that we had to start calling our patients by the term of Mrs ??? and Mr ???,she wasn't there but should have been when as we told the first patient her reply was.."Tell her to bugger off."..I'm .Nellie...always was and always will be.

I once saw a baby in neutral colours(white) and made the mistake of calling the child by the wrong sex and got told off by the mother. I replied in future all babies would be called "IT"
